The Department of Education in Anguilla has expressed commendation and pride for the performance shown by many primary school students this year. This expression came at the 8th Annual Primary School National Awards Ceremony held on Thursday, November 9, at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium, under the theme “Believe and you will Achieve.”

The ceremony was sponsored by the Anguilla Electricity Company (ANGLEC) which has been sponsoring the event since its commencement in 2007.

Fifty-six students received awards compared with forty-six the previous year. The Department of Education stated in a press release that ANGLEC’s commitment to the sponsorship of the event showed the company’s as being a good corporate citizen and a friend of education and youth. The release pointed out that this was seen as the number of awardees fluctuated from year to year.

The awards were presented in the presence of a large crowd of persons including the proud parents of the students. The awards were for outstanding performance in Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies at Test of Standards, Caribbean Primary School Exit Assessment (CPEA), Music and Sports.
The presentation of the Patricia J. Adams Literary Award, now in its sixth year, was made to one student each from Grades 3, 5 and 6 who excelled in Composition Writing. The recipients were:
